So on the day, I write this (March 1st) my little blog is officially 2 months old and I thought now would be a perfect time to take a step back and reflect on how far it’s come in its short little lifespan.
Before starting my blog I had SO many fears holding me back from getting started…
‘Isn’t blogging soooo over saturated and impossible to break into now?’
‘I’m way too late, all the great bloggers needed to start blogging 2009 if they have any hope of being successful’
‘I don’t know what niche I want to focus on’
‘I don’t know how to use WordPress’
‘I don’t know any other bloggers!’
Honestly, that’s just a couple of them, we’re barely scratching the surface here! But you get the gist, I was very hesitant to get started but I made the decision that on January 1st, 2018 I would take the leap and give blogging a go.
I’m a huge believer in allowing ourselves to have exploratory phases with creative pursuits we’re interested in. There are no downsides to this because even if it ultimately ends up being something you’re not passionate about, you’ll learn about yourself along the way, gain closure that it’s just not for you and you will be one step closer to discovering what truly sets your heart on fire.
Fast forward two months and it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made in a LONG time, rivalling dropping out of university last year and getting out my first job, it has had that much of a positive impact on my life and the best part?
This is only the beginning!
Over the past two months, I have:
- Grown my twitter following from 100 followers to 2.5K
- Attended my first blogger meet-up
- Migrated my blog from Squarespace to WordPress
- Stumbled into the most beautiful, supportive community of people I’ve ever come across
If blogging is something you’ve been on the fence about doing let me bust a few myths for you that I quickly discovered were absolutely not true.
“I’m too late to the party”
Absolutely 100% NO. There are new bloggers starting up every day and there is no scarcity, only abundance and I guarantee you will have something unique to offer and you’re doing the world a disservice by not starting sooner and sharing your thoughts with the world!
“Bloggers might be unkind to me’
Honestly, out of every online community I’ve been in, the blogging community has been one of the most welcoming and supportive places I’ve found on the internet. Obviously, with every group of individuals, there can be times where people can behave in a less than satisfactory way however, I’ve yet to experience anything less than support and love since starting blogging myself.
“No-one will read my blog!”
Get yourself a Twitter account, declare you are a blogger and start making connections with people and I guarantee before you know it you will have yourself a beautiful little community forming. Once I added ‘Lifestyle blogger’ to my bio, I had other bloggers following me back before I officially relaunched my blog! There are also so many groups on Facebook for new bloggers that you can join too and you’ll be welcomed with open arms.
“I don’t know how to make a blog!”
There are so many options you can use to start a blog, many of them offering free options too! WordPress, Blogger, Tumblr to name a few, there are also huge amounts of online resources to help you if you get stuck and hop back on that twitter account you created or into that blogger Facebook group and you’ll have many bloggers who will be more than happy to help you out!
I’m planning on making a series of blog posts to help new bloggers get started because if you even have the slightest amount of interest in starting, I’d urge you act upon it! It will bring so much joy to your life!
How long have you been blogging for? Has it had a positive impact on your life? Or are you still working up to getting yours started? Either way I’d love to hear from you!
